5QF: January 6th, 2012

Here are the questions for January 6th, 2012
1. What is the weather like where you are and do you like it?
So far it's been weird... it's been cooler than North Carolina, which is odd since we're six hours south of Raleigh. You'd think it'd be warmer. I'm thinking that it'll eventually be warmer here than in NC, but it's been unseasonably warm in the south lately.
I love the warmer temps. I can't do too hot (like Phoenix or Las Vegas) but I HATE the cold. I was so glad to move south for the warmer weather.

2. When you're sick what do you seek comfort from?
My bed. There's nothing better than just snuggling in my warm bed and being taken care of by Steve. I enjoy Mrs. Grass's cup o' noodles to make me feel better too.

3. What do you need to do before the end of the month?
Um... finish unpacking my desk stuff and get these boxes out of here so Gus will stop climbing on them and attacking my desk!

4. Have you ever served on a jury?
Nope... I've always wanted to be called for Jury Duty and the one time I got the summons, the day I was supposed to go, I had to call the 1-800 number to make sure that I was still needed and they had dismissed me.  :-(  I'm certain that's why I've never been called... anyone who wants to be called won't be, and those that are, HATE IT.

5. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
I'd be my cats. They are spoiled, loved, and do nothing all day and enjoy it.
Maybe I'd be a bird so I could fly and see the world from up high.

5QF: December 9th, 2011

Sorry that this is late-- we were in the middle of moving to GA, and I didn't have access to a computer last Friday!

1. What is your favorite Christmas cookie?
I love chocolate chip cookies and anything that's technically a cake pop or brownie!

2. What's your favorite holiday movie & why?
Love Actually. It's a great plot and the story lines all connect in some way. I love that it's all about love and how it comes in different forms and regardless of your age, love is all around. It's just a wonderful movie. I also love Christmas Vacation because it makes me laugh unlike any other movie. It reminds me of my childhood- my family always watched it and we would quote the movie as we watched.

3. Is there a gift that you bought for your kids that you wish you hadn't after they opened it?
Nope. Everything I purchase is very calculated and there's a reason for it.

4. What is the messiest room in your house right at this moment?
Our bedroom-- we just moved in last week and it's the last room that's full of boxes needing to be unpacked!

5. What is the furthest you have driven for the holidays?
From MI to IN when we went up north for my husband's father's wedding. We flew into Detroit and were able to spend Christmas with my parents, and then we drove from MI to IN (five hours) to spend the remainder of the holiday with his family.

5QF: December 16th, 2011

1. What's the best Christmas present you've ever received?
The best was in 2007, we got to actually spend Christmas with my family. We had just moved to NC and came back to MI and IN for Steve's dad's wedding. We stayed the night in a hotel, but got to wake up and head to my parents' house for Christmas day. I miss spending holidays with family!!

2. Worst/Funniest White Elephant gift ever received?
I can't think of anything... I do know that I gave a couple teaching-related items and they were the "hot" items that everyone was fighting over.

3. Is your Christmas tree plain and simple (white lights and matching ornaments) or is it wild and crazy (colored lights with lots of ornaments collected over the years)?
It's both- white lights and silver and blue bulbs and some ornaments that we've collected over the years.

4. "How" do you iron your clothes? The old fashioned iron/ironing board way, the shower, back in the dryer, etc.
Um... I don't iron.

5. How much baking do you do for Christmas and what are your "must make" items? (I'm looking for recipes here, peeps...)
I will make some Buckeyes for my dad and then probably some chocolate covered cherry cake pops for my mom. When my in-laws come, I'll make something for them too-- probably something I've pinned on Pinterest!

5QF: December 2nd, 2011

From the Friday 5 Website: Winter must be preparing to pounce upon us in the northern hemisphere, because it was a brisk-but-manageable 68 (F) yesterday morning here in Honolulu. Before we know it, overnight temperatures will dip into the high fifties and we’ll all be bundled up in jackets and long pants!

(1) What’s your favorite thing about cold weather?

NOTHING!! I HATE when it's cold!! I keep moving further and further south because I hate the cold so much! When I was a teacher, I loved the idea of possible snow days... then I moved to NC and taught at a year-round school and DREADED snow days because we had to make them up on a SATURDAY!!! Is there anything worse than school on a Saturday??? Yes my friends, multiple Saturdays to make up for multiple snow days!!

(2) Soups and hot beverages seem to be everyone’s favorite cold-weather culinary combatant, but what’s another food that seems to take the bite out of the cold?

In my opinion, NOTHING takes the bite out of cold! Maybe something from the crock-pot would work... I make a mean beef stew!

(3) When the weather is just starting to turn cold but is not yet in full frigidity, what do you add to your bed until it’s time to break out the heavy artillery? (I said what, not whom!)

Hmmm... We (thankfully) live in a mild climate, so our winter doesn't get SUPER cold... but it does get chilly. We have five cats and two dogs that we can add to our bed to generate some warmth (lol), but usually it's just adding the down comforter and putting the heating pad on the bed that make us extra toasty at night!

(4) What household chore seems especially unkind in these colder months?

Maybe taking out the garbage and recycling bins and bringing them back in... but Steve does that, so I can't complain. I do hate going grocery shopping in the cold months... having to load and unload the card with groceries and then go from a warm house to a cold car to get the items... I hate it.

(5) Among people you know, who seems most oblivious to cold weather?

My husband. He's ALWAYS in shorts, a t-shirt and sandals without socks. He's always hot and dresses like it's summer year-round. I'm always FREEZING (even in the summer) so the winter is especially rough on me. I just snuggle next to him to stay warm!!
Now I'm cold!!!

Five Question Friday- November 25th, 2011

1. Is there a special dish you prepare that you are famous for?
Hmmm... not really. I make a pretty delicious turkey. My dad loves the Buckeye Balls that I make, my husband loves my Pan-Fried Cheeseburgers, and I love my scrambled eggs.

2. Are you (did you) go Black Friday shopping ?
Nope. I refuse to participate in the craziness. I do all my shopping online where I can get free shipping and get the best prices. I'm done with everything (have been for about three weeks).

3. What are your strangest holiday traditions?

I don't know if they're strange, but we always watch Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve (and usually again on Christmas day). We also go "Day After Christmas" shopping with my parents each year and you get one thing that Santa didn't bring you.  :-)

4. Apple or pumpkin pie?
Cherry.  :-)   If I had to pick from the two though, I'd go with apple but I'd want it served warm with vanilla bean ice cream on top.

5. When will you put up your Christmas tree?

As soon as we're moved into our new house!! Probably the weekend of December 10th but maybe not until that week sometime.
