A Smashing Good Time!

A week from today, my sweet little baby Hewy will be one. I'm having a hard time realizing that he's really growing up and it's so fast. Too fast.

I'm still not convinced that he's my last baby that I'll raise. Steve will argue otherwise, but I have this nagging feeling that he's not the last. I hope I'm right, because as hard as the first few months are without sleep... there's something so wonderful about raising a baby.

Just the other day, I was looking at Hugh and I couldn't believe how big he was. He looks like a toddler already and it hurt my heart for a second to think that his baby phase will end in a week. Honestly, I think he'll always be my baby.

One of the newest "trends" is to take pictures around the first birthday of the baby eating their first cake. Many people do this at the 1st birthday, but the trend is to do it ahead of time and have pictures at the party. It's less stressful on the parents to worry about getting pictures and monitoring everything else going on, so the "Cake Smash" session was born.

I took pictures of my friend Michelle's baby, June, in February when we celebrated her first birthday. I loved her session and found it to be so cute. I was excited to be able to take Hugh's pictures.

I didn't realize how BUSY and ACTIVE Hugh is. It made the session a bit more challenging than I had anticipated. I asked my good friend Kathryn to help me... and thankfully she came with her camera and between the two of us, we got some really cute pictures!!

Here are some of my favorites:

I was impressed that he was able to try some cake and not gag on it or throw up. As soon as he was done, he got up and started walking around... taking blue footprints all over my white cloth! It looked like a smurf had been there.

I'm now getting ready for his birthday party. His theme is a Winter ONEderland and I think it's going to be wonderful. It's next Thursday (his actual birthday) we we'll be celebrating with 20 little friends and 18 adults. It should make for a lively house with lots of fun. We're going to have a hot cocoa bar, meatballs, some veggies and dip, some fruit and some cheese. It's been fun gathering items for the party and I finally finished his birthday video. Steve is going to convert it this weekend and then we'll be golden!

I'll be sure to post pictures after his party next week!!
