Day 85

How funny is this face???

What a great day! We didn't do ANYTHING or go ANYWHERE and it was incredible!! Gus slept all through the night, which was awesome considering that he took a two-hour nap just before bed. We were both actually able to wake up on our own.

For those of you without kids... this is the thing that I miss more than anything about my previous life (the one before Gus). Until it's gone, you have no idea how amazing it is to be able to wake up when your body wants you to wake. There's something about a crazed, hectic, alarmed scream to wake you from a deep slumber. It throws off your whole day, and for parents, it's a constant for at least four-- maybe six years. But this morning... we got to sleep in and it was awesome.

Gus took one nap today and it was another two and a half hour one but it was in the mid-morning to afternoon. We tried to put him down around 3 and he wasn't having it. He wanted to be down where we were, so Steve brought him down and we put him in the exersaucer. He hadn't been in it in months and he loved it! It was like rediscovering a new toy.

On a totally different topic... I recently found a song that fits how I feel about Gus perfectly. I'm going to put it here with the video with lyrics so you can follow along. I now claim it as "our song."

It fills my heart with happiness and makes me smile the whole time that it's on. It is so perfect for me and Gus... don't you think???

I made one of the recipes from the Philly Cooking Creme Dinnertime Dilemma party again tonight. I made the broccoli/cauliflower cheesy chicken casserole and it was SOOOOOOOO good! I don't know what I did differently this time, but it was incredible.

I told Steve that I'm a diamond that he never knew existed when he married me. He married a lump of carbon... and even this time last year he had no idea what mad cooking skills I had!! He's lucky that I'm a killer in the kitchen... I'm serious. I am a damn good cook!!!  ;)

After dinner we watched The Fourth Kind. Now... this movie creeped me out, but after Steve went online and read me some of the reviews for it, I still liked it, but I wasn't as freaked out. I do think that aliens DO exist and I'm just thankful that they don't come to my bed at 3:33 every morning. And if I ever see a white creepy looking owl outside my house... I'm heading for the hills. Just sayin'.

I took some pictures of Gus tonight before the movie... here are some of my favorites. Notice that he's REALLY chewing a lot tonight. I think a tooth/teeth will emerge ANY DAY NOW!!!!

Cute right?? So then I took another one and when I was on Photoshop, I decided to play with the eye color and see what Gus would look like with different colored eyes. I couldn't get it perfect, but you can get a basic idea:
With his amazing blues

With light brown eyes...

With green eyes...

With hazel eyes...

I dig the eyes that he has. I'd kill to have blue eyes like his. They're the prettiest color blue and have a dark blue rim around the outside... too cool.

Anyway... see you tomorrow!!

Day 84

This morning at 3am Gus woke up and was WIDE awake. I think he overheard Kristen tell me about Grace being up early and he got an idea to try it too. Maybe that's what he was talking to her about yesterday. Anyway, he decided to give it a go and didn't go back to sleep until 4:30. He got up around 8:30 and then took a nice hour-long nap this morning. When he got up I decided to head out and do the grocery shopping.
Let me just say that usually when I go grocery shopping, the people I encounter are so kind. There are lots of hellos and smiles and it's a pleasant experience. I usually go Thursday afternoon... but thought today would be just as nice. I was wrong. There were so many nasty, rude people in the store! I had one lady roll her eyes at me when I said excuse me and tried to go around her cart that was in the middle of the aisle. I don't know what it was about today... even the cashier was unfriendly and didn't smile or say anything to me. :(

We returned home and I put the groceries away while Gus played in the living-room. I decided to buy him a handle-free Sippy since that's what he's been stealing at all of our playdates. He loved it!!

He ended up going down for a nap around 3:00 and slept until 6:00! A two-and-a-half hour nap... incredible! I went into the nursery to check on him and he was snoring... so I took a quick video of it. :)

I was downstairs with Steve making dinner when Gus finally woke up, so Steve went up to get him. When he came down, he was so happy to see me and was very snugly with Steve. I swear, when he first wakes up... it's my favorite time with him because he's super cuddly!!

Gus played after dinner and Steve was amazed at what he was doing. He flipped over his dino rider and was examining the wheels and how they worked. I thought nothing of it, since I've seen him do it before, but Steve couldn't believe his eyes. He's a proud papa... and the engineer in him liked what he saw.

While we were getting ready to bring Gus up for bed, he was playing and I took a few more pictures:

We're looking forward to doing NOTHING this weekend. We don't have to go anywhere or see anyone and we're both super excited to lounge and be comfy all weekend together!!

Feeling Itchy

So... I've been feeling this need to start the adoption process again. I'm not sure where it's coming from, because most days I am exhausted with Gus and cannot imagine adding another child, much less an infant into the mix. I don't know... maybe it's because my clock is ticking and I feel like I need to something more.

I got an email from CAS today with a child from NC DSS. He's a nine-year-old AA male and I fell in love with his profile. I'm sure nothing is going to come from this, but his smile and situation made me forward it to Steve with one word: Interested? We'll see.

So I made an adoption profile page for our website... please check it out and forward to friends and family. Not sure how or when it's all going to happen again, but I just feel itchy about it all.

Day 83

We had a VERY busy day today!! I planned two playdates and in hind-sight, I probably should have just done the one and done the other one for another day. It was a lot for Gus and he skipped his morning nap... not a good thing.

We headed over to Kristen's house and Laura and Mac came over too. I used to teach with them at OG and Laura was my track mate last year. I love her. She made last year so great, and I love Kristen too. She's such a funny person and always makes me laugh. The last time they were tracked out we got together, so it was nice to see them again this track out too.

Here's what I learned from the playdate this morning. Gus likes to take other children's sippy cups. He took Grace's two weeks ago at her place, and then today, took Ryan's. I think he just wants to chew on it, but it's strange that he loves the sippy that someone else has.

It was a interesting to try and discipline him when he was poking Mac in the eye... or trying to grab the sippy from Ryan's hands. It's like, I don't want him to be a bully (AT ALL), but strange that I'm at a phase where I have to actually discipline him. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with it, but it's new territory for us.

We left Kristen's around 11:50 and then had to be at Melanie's for a 1:00 playdate. Of course, Gus fell asleep in the car as we drove the 20 minutes from Fuquay... not nearly enough for a nap.

We headed over to Melanie's, and fortunately, she lives like two minutes away. We could have walked to her place... she lives here in the Glen. Kristen was there with Grace when we arrived, and it was our first official playdate for the K15 kids!!

I found out that Gus and Oliver (Melanie's baby) will be in the same school when they grow up. It's nice to know that Gus will have a buddy for school already! Oliver just turned a year on March 11th. He's super cute and very friendly.
Oliver!

Gus and Melanie

Grace!

It was interesting being at Kristen's this morning... Ryan is 17 months and his age difference is noticeable when it comes to playing with Gus. Mac is a month younger and while it's not too bad, there's a bit of a difference. She's not crawling around or walking. Then going to Melanie's, Oliver is walking and talking and is only two months older than Gus... and Grace is four days younger and is just starting to stand unassisted and will be walking here in the near future.

Being around two babies that are so close to his age was neat. They were very interested in what each other had, and did a great job of sharing. Grace and Oliver would be off together and Gus would be off doing his own thing. Then Gus and Oliver would play and Grace was off... and then Gus and Grace would play and Oliver would be off. It was interesting. Even more interesting was to watch them actually touch and play. Gus and Oliver played "footsie" a few different times... it was funny to watch. They weren't kicking or being mean... just using their feet to touch. So fuuny.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun. We got home around 3:30 and Gus crashed. He only napped for an hour though because the stupid UPS man made the dogs bark and they woke him up.

The UPS guy did bring my book that I made of Gus's birth family. I took pictures of it so you could all see what it looks like:

 See you tomorrow...
