Day 141

My oh my... where did today go? Steve got up with Gus and I got to sleep in, but I was up at 8:15 so it wasn't really sleeping in. I've been tired all day.

We had a leisurely morning and Gus took a two and a half hour nap. We had lunch here at the house and then headed to the AT&T store in Apex to get this new "hot-spot" thingy that instantly gives us both 4-5 bars in the house. It was free and it's amazing!!
Driving to Apex... Gus and I shared a cherry sucker

He's GOT TO BE teething!!!!

After AT&T we went to the Target at Beaver Creek and went in looking for some specific items only to find NOTHING. It's pretty bad when you can't find anything that you're looking for at Target. Steve needed Neutrogena bar soap... didn't have any. We need toilet locks for childproofing and they didn't have any. I needed invitation sized envelopes to mail the rest of my thank you cards and they didn't have any. We decided to go to the Wal-Mart in Apex.

It was quite bright and sunny out, so I put Gus's froggy hat on him (one of my fourth graders gave it to him as a baby shower gift-- isn't it super cute!!). He didn't try to take it off right away, which was a surprise!

At Wal-Mart we were able to get everything but the toilet lock... so I ordered three from Amazon tonight. I also found a lazy-susan lock as well. They should be here by Wednesday.

After Wal-Mart we got home and tried to put Gus down for a nap, but he wasn't having it. Steve brought him down and I started dinner. While I was making dinner, Steve went out to get the mail and guess what arrived today??? Gus's birth certificate!!!

We had dinner and it was basically bedtime. Here are some pictures from lunch and dinner today:

Trying to get out of his highchair

Yes... doing it with a smile on his face  :)

I said, "Gus, you're so funny..." and he laughed

He's such a turkey boy!!

So when Steve hooked up the AT&T thingy, he had to turn off my computer and then when he tried to restart it, it wouldn't come on. He spent about an hour trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with it and came up with nothing. Then... out of the blue... it came on. Weird.

See ya tomorrow!

Day 140

Well it's Friday... thank goodness!! I was able to get all my thank you cards finished and now I need to address the envelopes, get some stamps, and they'll be in the mail. :)

Gus was up around 7:40 this morning and I totally wanted to keep sleeping. I stayed up so late the last few nights trying to get the website updated. It IS updated now and looks great. I've decided that in order to avoid spending HOURS resizing pictures, I'll do it as I go and save them to a special folder and that way, at the end of the month, I can just open that folder and have them. It should save me a lot of time in the future.

This morning I made us some scrambled eggs for breakfast. We also had toast and little smokeys. and Gus ate ALL of his breakfast! I was surprised! He really likes scrambled eggs and didn't have any sort of reaction to them (I didn't expect him to have one).

After breakfast, we watched Chuggington. I had never seen it, but it was actually really cute. It was all about trains (better than Thomas in my opinion) and Gus was interested (slightly). He didn't really watch it... he listened and occasionally would look up, but he wasn't into it like he is with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We played with his ball popper (which he LOVES) and then he went down the slide a few times and was playing with Elphie. While we were in the livingroom I looked over into the kitchen and saw this:

Elphie has decided that she'll be the new clean-up crew for the house. I couldn't believe that she jumped into the highchair to eat the crumbs.

Around 11 or so, I brought Gus up for his nap. He slept for almost two hours and then was up and happy. We went back downstairs for lunch and we had leftover pizza from last night. Gus ate everything up and then I decided to give him some fresh strawberries to try. Here's his reaction:

As you can guess, he did not like them at all. I even tried to put them into the strawberry yogurt that I was feeding him and he had the same reaction. I think they were too tart for him.

Here are some other pictures from lunch:

After lunch we played in the livingroom and I watched some television. Gus was playing with his cars, his books, and his LeapFrog car. He was very quiet and I couldn't see him. Our livingroom is blocked off, so I knew he had to be in there somewhere... here's what I found:
The little turkey boy was hiding under Steve's table!

Gus took his afternoon nap from 4-5 and while he was sleeping Wendy came over. We talked for almost an hour and it was good to catch up with her and hear about things going on in her life. It's been a week since I last saw her!

Around 5ish Gus got up. Steve had just come home, and he went in to get him. Then he brought him into the bedroom and the three of us chilled out on the bed for a little bit while Steve told me about his day. He decided that he wanted Wendy's for dinner and wanted to try the new salad that I had blogged about. :)

After dinner we watched Gray's Anatomy from two weeks ago and tomorrow we're going to watch the one from last night. Steve went to bed early and I'm not too far behind him... I. AM. EXHAUSTED!!!

Gus went to bed at 8:00 and then from 8:00-8:30 he was fussy in his room. I went in and got him and rocked him but he wanted to play. So from 8:30-9:00 we read, played, bothered Steve, and then I put him down. He fussed for a few minutes, but thankfully went right to sleep and has been quiet for about twenty minutes. I'm hoping that he has a solid night's sleep and wakes up around 8:30 tomorrow morning.

Day 139

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

Sometimes it's so hard to "Let go and let God." However, I truly believe that all things happen as they're meant to happen and things will transpire on God's time, not mine.
Pray, hope and don't worry. Anxiety doesn't help at all. Our Merciful Lord will listen to your prayer.--- Saint Padre Pio

So I'm not going to say anything more, but I ask that you keep our family in your prayers and pray that we have patience and that things happen as they're meant to happen and that we stay open to the ways of the Lord.

Today was a good day. We did some grocery shopping and Gus had three duplicate gifts from his birthday, so I was able to return them and get in-store credit. I got him a new Leap Frog car that has an engine and carburetor and makes revving noises.Kristen, Thom and Grace got him a Duplo zoo animals set and I got him the big Duplo Zoo to go with the animals. I also got him some sandals and tank tops and now he's ready for our 90+ degree days that we have coming up.

I am almost finished with his thank you cards... I hope to send them out Saturday.

Here are some pictures from today:

The new car

Steve got home early (I was still grocery shopping) and we had an early dinner- Papa Johns. It was okay... it tasted weird/different and didn't "do it" for me. After dinner we played a little more and then it was bath time for Gus.

Gus went down without a fight (he was tired from only taking one nap today). We just finished watching the results show for American Idol and I'm happy that Lauren is in the finals. I hope she wins. It was neat to see the hometown trip for each of them and I cried while watching all three. Scotty is from Garner, NC and it was neat to see him here at Lake Benson. :) He's also in the finals.

Anyway... we've got nothing planned tomorrow (yay)! Our weekend is also free (hoping that the end of the world isn't Saturday at 6pm as predicted). I don't have anything planned until Monday night when I tutor Gulbike again. :)

I'm tired... going to bed.

Day 138

Gus slept in this morning until around 8:20 and we had to be at our playdate at 9! I had enough time to get him dressed and the diaper bag packed before we had to leave. I grabbed some applesauce and a cereal bar for him to have for breakfast and then filled his sippy with milk as I headed out the door.

We had a great morning at Kristen's and Gus loved playing with Grace. Here's some pictures from today thanks to my camera phone and Kristen's camera:

We left Kristen's around 12:30 and the minute Gus was buckled into his car seat, he fell asleep. :) I went to Wendy's for lunch and was surprised to see that they have a new strawberry grilled chicken salad... it was absolutely delicious. I got the 1/2 sized one because I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but it was really good.

I got home and fed Gus some lunch while we listened to some music. He was in a pretty good mood while he had lunch, so I took some pictures.

You may have noticed, Gus likes to put as much food as humanly possibly into his mouth at once. He usually is okay, but occasionally he starts to choke and food comes flying out of his mouth as he coughs and I am pounding on his back. I almost always break the food into little pieces, and I think maybe I should just go with bigger pieces that he can only get one in his mouth. I don't know... I do know that it's becoming more and more frequent though.

After lunch and playing for a bit, I put Gus down for his nap and he slept for a little over an hour. Not quite as long as I would have liked, but it was better than just thirty minutes. While he slept, I worked on updating our website. I need to get it current with pictures and I wanted up update our adoption profile page with recent pictures of our family and Gus.

I tutored Gulbike tonight- we worked on science and she did really well. Her mom watched Gus for me since Steve didn't get home from Indiana until late tonight. Gus has officially reached the point where separation anxiety is serious business. He did great with Gulbike's mom until I went upstairs and then he lost his mind. She did a great job of keeping him busy and thankfully Steve got home and saved the day. :)

I'll be tutoring her every Monday and Wednesday for the next couple of weeks (until EOGs) and then we'll probably go back to just one day a week (but maybe we'll keep doing two). Her mom said something about me continuing as her tutor even into 6th grade... which is nice to know there is some longevity and I'll keep making at least $20 a week extra. I certainly can't/won't complain!

We're not going anywhere tomorrow and it'll be nice to just hang out at home. The weather for this coming week is supposed to be HOT so it'll be fun to take Gus outside and use his water table on the deck. Right now it's been too chilly to use it, but he certainly loves it and when it's nice, he's used it!! Kristen said she wants to get Grace one after seeing pictures of Gus using it. :)

See ya' tomorrow!
