Day 124

Sometimes you just need to wear a fish hat.

We got up this morning and I'm not sure why, but I woke up exhausted. I am so tired and just want to sleep all the time. :(

We played up here for a while and Gus is like a mini-tornado. He seriously causes a lot of destruction and everything is on the floor and all over after he's done playing. I'll be glad to have him help me when he's a bit older, and then even more glad when he can do it himself completely.

I made myself some bacon and eggs for breakfast and then Gus had 1/2 a whole wheat bagel. He also had some of my eggs, and he had some white grape cherry juice. I got him dressed and then took some pictures of him. He wore a shirt that his Grandma and Grandpa Walker bought for him the last time they were here.

The shirt has a hood on it, and being that my SIL just posted some pictures of my niece and nephew wearing hoods up and looking like "hoodlums," I decided to put the hood up on Gus and take some pictures.

He was more than ready for a nap around 10:15 but I knew I needed to wait it out... so he finally got to go up around 11. He went down without a fight and slept for almost two and a half hours.

When he got up we had lunch and then went grocery shopping. I was seriously dreading it... but it wasn't too bad. The store was pretty empty and I didn't have to wait at all when I checked out. I got Gus's birthday gift while I was shopping. I think he's going to like it a lot. Gus was very occupied while shopping and was enjoying his snacks. He took out the puffs, took out the cookies, and then ate the graham crackers. Then he ate the puffs and then he ate the cookies. It was quite odd to watch.

We got home and I put the groceries away while Gus played. I put on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for him (there was a new episode) and he was super excited. While he watched tv, he grabbed the Wii microphone and was carrying it around. I kept calling him my little rock star.  :)

Steve got home around 5:30 and I was too tired to cook. He said that he'd cook for us and ended up going and getting Chinese. YUCK. I hate Chinese but I didn't want to cook, so it was what it was. I figure if I'm going to eat that kind of crap, I should at least eat crap that I enjoy-- it was just disgusting. I thought by getting chicken lo-mein that it'd be better, but it was just as gross. At least we don't eat it often. I think the last time we had Chinese was MONTHS ago.  :)

Gus played for a bit before bed. Getting him diapered is becoming quite the challenge. He pooped this evening and as I was trying to change him, he flipped himself over, knocked off the diapers, knocked off the other basket, and then was moving around. I had to wipe his butt while he was moving and crawling away from me. I didn't have a diaper ready, so I had to put him down, (which he decided to run around the house like a nudie boy) so I could get a diaper. I am just glad he didn't pee before I could get him diapered!! Oi Vey!!!

I'm heading to bed.

Day 123

What a day. I could have slept for another two or three hours... but Gus had enough sleep and was ready to go. We came downstairs and played for a little bit. We shared a bagel and I watched tv while he played. He got cranky around 10 so we went up and I put him down for a nap. He didn't actually fall asleep until almost 11.

He took a nap that was about an hour and a half long, and then he got up and we had some lunch. I had thought about going grocery shopping, but he woke up from his nap too close to lunch for me to go. He had some hummus, whole wheat tortilla, turkey stix, and some apple sauce oatmeal. He ate all of it and seemed happy. He also drank about three ounces of white grape cherry juice and loved it.

He's such a little hambone. When I get my camera out, he instantly starts smiling (hehehe) and then squints his eyes because of the flash. It trips him up when I go from auto to manual and don't use a flash.

This afternoon was just like this morning... playing. laughing, and napping. He took a nap just before Steve came home, and ended up napping for over two hours. Dinner was ready and Gus was still asleep... so I heard him moving around and Steve went up to get him. WELL... he wasn't ready to be up and was a beast. He didn't want to eat his dinner, and instead, we gave him some formula in this sippy after he had tried to eat carrots, mashed potatoes, and chicken.

I tutored tonight, so Gulbike and her mom came at 7 and Gus was already in a mood. Thankfully, he was very happy and social when they were here. Gulbike and I went to the FROG while Steve and Gus played downstairs and Gulbike's mom played with Gus too. It was the easiest $20 to make... I love it. I dread tutoring all day before it's time, but when I'm actually doing it, it's the best.  :)

Steve put Gus to bed and I'm so tired. I wrote about this in Gus's blog for today, but it's so funny how much things can change in a year. A year ago tonight, my cousin Jessica sent me a message on Facebook with her cell and asked me to call her. I had no idea what it was about, and we were out to eat at Outback in Michigan with my parents, Scott, Christie, Alex, and Lily. When we got to the car, I called Jessica and she told me that Sharon's niece (C) was pregnant and wanted Steve and I to be the parents of the baby. She didn't know much else, but she said the baby was due at the end of May.

The whirl-wind started that night as we talked about the craziness of the situation, what we'd do for an attorney, what if it didn't work out, did they want to meet us, how much was it going to cost, was it a boy or girl, was there a birth father, was everyone on board, was this really going to happen?

We celebrated quietly and were so excited to have a potential match. Steve said he had a feeling it'd be something like that, but I thought it was all surreal. I expected our adoption to follow the typical examples... the birth mom would contact CAS, see our profile book, CAS would call us and we would arrange a meeting... then if they liked us, we'd maybe meet again... and then when it was time, we'd get the call to go meet our baby. This was NOTHING like that.

It's even crazier to think that a week from that night (May 3, 2010) we got the call that C was in labor. We have tickets to opening night of Hair at the DPAC on Tuesday. A year ago, we had awesome tickets to the last game to be played at the Durham Athletic Park... I don't forsee anything crazy happening next week. :)

I know I say it all the time, but I feel so lucky to be Gus's mom. He's an amazing little person and I feel so honored to have been chosen to be his mom.

Day 122

We had a really great day today! Not only did we play and laugh a lot, but Gus and I went to Krispy Kreme for the very first time! My Triangle Mommies group had a Coffee Connections today and Wendy and I went. She was super excited for me to get my first taste of KK... I am not a big donut person, so right off the bat I wasn't super eager to try one. I will say that the chocolate with custard was yummy and I enjoyed the hot glazed. It's not something that I could eat daily, but it was good for a treat. I think they're better than DD for sure.  :)

I didn't let Gus try a donut (he's too little)... so he had some Wagon Wheels instead and was just as happy.

I love this.  <3   So cute!

My cute little donut boy!

Everyone needs a KK hat!!

After our morning at KK, Wendy and I went to Wal-Mart and I got some cat food and then I wanted to see if the FV WM had different Gerber snacks... and they did! I stocked up on a lot and we're set for a long time. I am going grocery shopping on Wednesday, so I don't need to get Gus any snacks. I did get two plastic plates with dividers, and some plastic forks and spoons for him. :)

After shopping we went and got Kaitlyn and then headed to La Fiesta for some Mexican for lunch. It's been forever since I had Mexican and it was muy deliciouso!!

Wendy dropped me off at home and then I took Gus up for a nap. Before I did this, I took some pictures of him in his cute "Small Fry" shirt.

I made stir-fry for dinner (it was so good) and Gus ate a ton!! I'm so incredibly proud of how well he's doing with solids. I think back to a few months ago when it was so frustrating and now he's eating like a champ!

We played for a bit downstairs and then it was time for bed. I hope Gus sleeps well tonight. He was up at 3 last night (early morning) and after the big news about Osama being killed, (I had stayed up to watch Obama come on and talk about it)... I was exhausted.

Tomorrow we're not going anywhere or doing anything- should be a great day!!

Photo Challenge: Soft & Sweet

For this week's photo challenge, I decided to use a picture that I think is both soft and sweet. It's a picture of Gus wearing his bee costume. I edited it to make the whole picture a bit softer and I just think he looks super sweet!!
